Academy Program 2021-22  Soccer (Outdoor)

Season:
Fall 2021
Starts:
Jan 18 ’21 TENTATIVE
Ends:
Apr 30 ’22

Program Overview

The Academy Program at Louisiana Fire Soccer Club is for players at 7-10 years of age who are learning to love the game of soccer. Academy players and parents seek to help their child develop more advanced technical skills and ball mastery in a positive, educational, and fun soccer environment. Academy at LA Fire SC prioritizes the individual player's development above all, as we know it is the key to continued athletic and personal growth.

The program emphasizes the importance of technical development with two training sessions per week and weekend games as the opportunity to explore newly learned or refined technical skills without the pressure and concern of wins and losses.. Our professional coaching staff works together as a team, raising the level of play for the entire program.

Our commitment to individual development is displayed with a variety of initiatives including flexible grouped player training and games as well as players being trained and coached by the entire Academy coaching staff. Hearing the same messages and technical lessons from different voices ensures each player will be afforded the opportunity to make a meaningful connection with the staff.

Louisiana Fire Soccer Club offers Academy at all 4 main campuses: Audubon Park, City Park, and Lafreniere Park.

Staff Coaching

For the 2020-21 season, the Academy will be returning many of its coaches. The group has a vast amount of playing and coaching experience, which include former high school and college players. The majority of our coaches also coach high school soccer throughout the city of New Orleans and its neighboring parishes. Coaches are qualified through either the National Soccer Coaching Associational of America (NSCAA) or the United State Soccer Federation (USSF). Some will also have international coaching licenses or badges. The Club conducts coaching education sessions throughout the year.

Training and Games

Teams will train twice a week with their assigned coach for the cycle week.

City Park

Monday and Wednesday ONLY, 5:30 pm  - 7:00 pm.

Metairie  |  Audubon

Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm.

*****Practice times are subject to change depending on coach availability and daylight savings****

Games

Games will be 7v7/9v9 (including goalkeepers) in accordance with USYSA and LSA guidelines. All games will consist of two 25-minutes halves. Each game will have a qualified referee provided by the club.

Parents - No parents are allowed on the fields during training sessions. At City Park, parents may observe training sessions by sitting up on the levee or by watching from outside the fences.

Playing Time Rules

It is club policy for all players to play at least 50% of each game. Players will also play in multiple positions throughout the YDP season.

Program fees

Required fees cover the rental, maintenance, and lighting of the fields, referees, insurance coverage, and professional coaching. They also cover preseason camp, winter clinics, and player evaluations.

The yearly fee for Academy is $575, which can be split into multiple payments through LeagueApps. Need-based Financial Aid is also available for families who request it.

What equipment do players need?

All players must wear soccer cleats and shin guards to all practices and games. A soccer ball is required for all practices. A good supply of water is definitely recommended to keep the player hydrated during all practices and games.

Players are REQUIRED to wear the practice uniform (NAVY Fire T-shirt, navy shorts, and navy socks) to all training sessions.

Game Uniforms (White jersey, red jersey, red shorts, red socks) are REQUIRED for all weekend games.

Thank you for joining the LA FIRE SC Academy Program for 2021!

I've received emails and calls with some FAQs that I figured I could put in writing for everyone as we approach the start of the season.

1. When does training start?

We'll begin Preseason Training on Monday Aug 30th and Wednesday Sept 1st at City Park. Part of the Preseason process is to allow our coaching staff to get to know all of the players in the program through an evaluation process. Evaluating players early on serves 2 purposes: 1) To ensure we create balanced team rosters for each weekend game schedule and 2) get a baseline for tracking each player's development through the course of the season.

I've attached the timeline for the Fall season here:

Fall 2021 Academy Timeline.pdf

2. What days do we train?

The default training day for Academy is Monday/Wednesday from 5:30-7pm at your chosen campus (City Park, Lafreniere, or Audubon Park).

On occasion, we have moved groups of players to Tuesday/Thursday schedules at Lafreniere and Audubon park to meet the needs of the players and/or coaches' schedules.

3. Uniforms?

Any recently purchased Louisiana Fire SC Recreational or Academy Uniform set will continue to be valid for the 2021-22 Academy Season. The game jerseys consist of a Red Jersey, White Jersey, Red Shorts, Red Socks.

At the Academy level, we do require a Navy Practice uniform to be worn to each training session. The kit is a Navy Jersey, Navy, Shorts, and Navy socks.

All Academy Uniforms are available at Third Coast Soccer, 2311 Veterans right next door to Shogun between Bonnabel and Causeway. You can ask the clerk for a Louisiana Fire Academy kit, and they will provide all the pieces you need over the counter. You may also order online a www.thirdcoastsoccer.net

4. What Size Ball?

Though some U8s use a size 3, we recommend a size 4 for Academy training. Make sure the ball is properly inflated. A soft or under-inflated soccer ball will be detrimental to a player's progress in training.

5. What are Instructional Games vs. Competitive Games vs. Skill Based Games?

The Academy Program is designed to promote player development over team development in a child centered environment for the U9s and U8s.

Using different stylized game formats on the weekends allows for players to be properly developed with instruction, introduction to competition, and controlled challenges throughout the course of the season.

Instructional games will feature on-field coaching by the coaching staff who will also referee. The focus on these games is for players to make real-time connections with coachable points during the game without the added stress of formal competition with a referee.

Competitive games will feature official referees and formal competition. The focus for these games is for players to adapt to a more competitive environment. Coaching will be executed from the sidelines. Competitive games will have balanced rosters and may feature teams from outside of Louisiana Fire SC.

Skill Based Games will feature weekend specific game rosters where players are placed into games based on the ability and attributes. Skill based games challenge players to contribute to gameplay at a speed and skill level that is appropriate for their development.

If you are interested in learning more about the US Youth Soccer Player Development Model, I highly encourage everyone to read through some of their handbook here: US Youth Soccer Player Development

If you guys have any other questions, please feel free to ask! I'll be sending out more info leading up to the beginning of the season.

Thanks,

Jason Dormady
