U5/U6 REC program at City Park is divided into boys and girls divisions.

Team

  • U5 and U6 Girls play on the same teams (players born in 2017 and 2016)

Practice

  • Each team usually holds 1 one-hour practice session every week
  • Players must wear shin guards; soccer cleats, water/ Gatorade, and should also bring a size 3 soccer ball to practice and games

Games

  • The team play what is called "Small-sided games", which consist of either 3v3/4v4 with no goalkeepers
  • Games are 4 quarters of 12 minutes. Quarters can be extended to 15 minutes to allow more playing time for all participants
  • Substitutions can happen during any stoppage of play
  • Halftime break is 5 minutes. Breaks between quarters are 2 minutes
  • All participants should get 50% of the time on the field during games
  • Games are played on a Friday night or Saturday morning at City Park
  • Girls U5/6 teams might have 1 game at Lions Park on a Saturday morning
  • Summer games will be on Thursday evenings.
  • The volunteer coaches referee the games

  • U7 and U8 Boys and Girls play on the same teams (players born in 2015 and 2014)

Practice

  • Each team usually holds 2 one-hour practice session every week
  • Practice days = Monday/ Wednesday OR Tuesday/ Thursday
  • Practice times = 5PM-6PM OR 6PM-7PM
  • Players must wear shin guards; soccer cleats, water/ Gatorade, and should also bring a size 3 soccer ball to practice and games

Games

  • The team play what is called "Small-sided games", which consist of either 7v7/8v8 with goalkeepers
  • Games are 4 quarters of 12 minutes. Quarters can be extended to 15 minutes to allow more playing time for all participants
  • Substitutions can happen during any stoppage of play
  • Halftime break is 5 minutes. Breaks between quarters are 2 minutes
  • All participants should get 50% of the time on the field during games

  • Girls teams U7/8 might have 1 game at Lions Park on a Saturday morning

  • The volunteer coaches referee the games

Cost

U5/U8 Players -  $75 

  • Field space to train and play games on
  • Insurance (every player will be registered with the Louisiana Soccer Association)
  • Developmental training sessions run by volunteer coach throughout the season
